Street Level is now open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 1pm-6pm. We’re staying safe in the space – wear your mask, wash your hands, and be healthy!

Young people ages 13 and up are welcome! All classes & activities are free. Program pages in this section can tell you more about what we offer. Email Matt at mwoods@urbangateways.org to learn more.

What we’re up to:

Multimedia journalism:

Street Level staff and artists are working with young multimedia journalists to explore youth-led themes like normalcy, adulthood, and civic engagement; they’re producing multimedia content to be shared on the Street Level blog, Mildsauce.  This program is made possible by a Youth Digital Media Activism (YDMA) grant from Chicago Learning Exchange. Partners for the multimedia journalism program include the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago History Museum, Chicago Votes, UCAN, Urban Alliance, and Free Spirit Media.

Documentary projects:

Street Level staff members are working closely with a group of 10 young artists to produce documentaries that celebrate Chicago’s musical legacy with today’s youth in partnership with Marwen. This program is made possible by a grant from the Chicago Film Office. We’ll post info about how you can view the documentaries once they’re ready!
