Mild Sauce is a webzine curated by the Street Level Editor’s Club. We’re relaunching the site in September – check back soon for new blog content! In the meantime, scroll down for more details on what Street Level writers are up to this summer. (Pictured: Mild Sauce 1.0. Mild Sauce 2.0 will be up in a few weeks!)

Throughout summer 2018, 10 -15 youth will be training at Street Level with professional journalists and media makers to create reviews and blog content. Those who are eligible for Teen Arts Pass (ages 13-19) will also write TAP event reviews.

Writers will focus on three themes:

Civic Engagement
Street Level is partnering with Chicago Votes to document and reflect on their work with detainees and voting access.

Future Neighborhoods
Youth will look at photography and Charles White depictions of family and neighborhoods to create their own photojournalistic responses, as well as creating podcast discussions around the theme – exploring museums and their own neighborhoods for inspiration.

Merchandise and Branding
Program participants will look at youth culture and investigate the value and effect of brands among this generation. They will also work with the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, experiencing the MCA’s show “My life on the Internet.” Ultimately Street Level aims to create its own art show around Design and Branding.

Mild Sauce will feature stories examining these themes in fall 2018.
